The Summer Event and New Cosmetics

The Summer update brings Rivals' first-ever seasonal event, which also doubles as the game's second birthday celebration. It launched on June 27, 2026, and all event content is only available for a limited time.
The event runs on a currency called Pearls, earned by completing tasks on the Event page and spent on items in the Shop. A daily Pearl Rush gives you a free x5 boost on all earned Pearls until you reach 250, resetting every day. Staying consistent with your daily tasks is the best way to unlock everything before the event closes.
The birthday celebration runs from June 28 to July 5, 2026, with its own set of quests and rewards:
- Birthday Candle skin for Knife (quest reward)
- Birthday Wrapping Wrap (10 keys)
- Cupcake Launcher skin (799 Robux)
The update also adds over 80 new cosmetics across skins, wraps, charms, finishers, and emotes. There are three main ways to get them:
- Summer Skin Case: Contains summer-themed skins for every weapon in the game, including Heatwave, Synthwave, Sea Glass, Palm Scythe, Riptide Katana, Shark, Whirlpool, and Surfing. Costs 249 Robux to open, or you can use Skin Tickets from the Season Pass.
- Tropical Chest: The main source of non-skin cosmetics during the event, containing new charms, wraps, finishers, and an emote. Some items can also be bought directly with Pearls.
- Pirate Bundle: A Davy Jones-themed bundle with 9 exclusive cosmetics: Kraken Sniper, Cannon Shorty, Pirate Hook, Ship In A Bottle, Cutlass, Long Lost Treasure, Dutchman, Spectralized, and X Marks The Spot.

New and Reworked Maps

The Summer update keeps things light on the map front, but there are still a few meaningful changes worth knowing about.
Sandbox is now an official permanent map with full contract support, moving it out of experimental status and into the regular rotation. All maps also received invisible ceilings to close off a long-standing jump glitch exploit.
The rest of the changes are adjustments to existing maps:
- Splash and Big Splash: Trampoline power reduced, more tree coverage added
- Big Crossroads: Invisible ceiling lowered, misleading gap near the border closed
- Construction: Falling off the map now eliminates you faster
- All maps: Summer-themed decorations added for the duration of the event

Gameplay and Balance Changes
Update 21 brings a solid set of gameplay improvements, balance tweaks, and bug fixes alongside the summer content.
On the gameplay side:
- Raycast Projectile system: All projectile weapons now use the new system, making hit detection more reliable and consistent
- Quick Attacks: Now client-sided, making them feel more responsive
- Matchmaking: Faster queue times, better server regions, and fewer cancelled duels. The 12-second countdown now skips if all players connect before it runs out
Ranked also got a couple of fixes:
- Placement matches now put you in a more accurate starting ELO
- Enemy ranks stay hidden until the duel ends
In Arcade Servers:
- Ammo drops are now balanced across the server
- Health drops clear burn effects when picked up
On the balance side, the Burst Rifle received nerfs this update. The developers confirmed it was overtuned after its recent rework and made adjustments to bring it back in line.
The update also fixes several bugs, including:
- Mobile controls
- Warper speed glitches
- Spear wall clipping
- Party teleport exploits
- Multiple cosmetic visual bugs
Conclusion
The Rivals Summer update covers a lot of ground. The seasonal event brings a fresh way to earn cosmetics, the map changes clean up some long-standing issues, and the gameplay improvements make matches feel smoother across the board.
