99 Nights in the Forest is a survival horror game on Roblox where players must survive in a forest full of dangerous creatures. The Modifier Flames update, released on February 21, 2026, introduced the Tool Trader, a new NPC that replaced the old Upgrade Station. He sells tools such as the Fishing Rod and Taming Flute and handles all tool upgrades in his workshop.

Where to Find the Tool Trader
The Tool Trader is available from Day 1 as soon as you start a match. His workshop is located near the campfire, close to whichever biome spawns on your map. You can easily spot him by opening your map and looking for his icon near the campfire area.
Unlike the Pelt Trader, who spawns on specific days and moves around the map, the Tool Trader stays in a fixed location throughout your entire run. This makes him easy to access whenever you need to buy or upgrade your tools.
The Tool Trader currently sells two items, both priced at 20 Mossy Coins each. The Fishing Rod allows you to fish for food and other items, while the Taming Flute lets you tame animals in the forest. Each item can only be purchased once per run.
Mossy Coins can be found on buildings, structures, and scattered throughout the forest. Killing cultists also drops Mossy Coins, so you should be able to gather enough fairly quickly if you explore actively.

How to Upgrade Tools
In addition to selling tools, the Tool Trader also handles upgrades. Currently, you can only upgrade the two tools he sells: the Fishing Rod and the Taming Flute. To upgrade a tool, equip the one you want to upgrade, then interact with the Workshop next to the Tool Trader NPC. You'll need a certain amount of tool XP to complete the upgrade, which you can farm by actively using the tools. Fishing earns XP for the Fishing Rod, and taming animals earns XP for the Taming Flute.
Previously, the Upgrade Station was a separate building where players handled all tool upgrades. With the Modifier Flames update, that building has been removed entirely, and its functionality moved to the Tool Trader's workshop.
